Body Odour?? Say NO NO!

Good day, readers!

Here comes Lolol! Lolol is back! Welcome to Bhealthy.Bgood segment. Sorry for the very long hiatus, guys. I hope it’s not too late for me to congratulate our 1st year students for finishing their first semester. More challenges that you guys have to face later, so keep strong ‘kay. Also, all the best and good luck to all 3rd year student for their end of posting exams.

As the name implied, Bhealthy.Bgood segment always touch more on health and quality of life. Unlike my previous entries which focus on Bhealthy part, this entry will focus on Bgood part. Hehe. Today’s entry title is Ways to Reduce Body Odor.

I bet everybody have same experience when you somehow feel you’re smelly. That down your confidence level, right? You might also have peers who have this kind of problem but they didn’t know how to get rid of it.

Most of us think that sweat is the cause of body odor. Actually, sweat, on its own, is odorless. Sweat is produced by two different glands, eccrine and apocrine glands. Eccrine glands, which found in most of exposed areas of body, excrete sweat consisting water and electrolytes. This sweat evaporate quickly and leaving the skin dry. Thus, it does not attract odor-producing bacteria. Meanwhile, apocrine glands, located in groin, feet and armpit, produce sweat that contains protein. This protein attracts bacteria, for it to be digested and expelled as highly aromatic fatty acids, which give bad odor. Now that we know the actual cause, treating it won’t be a much problem! :D So, here are the tips:

1. Take bath
Bathing will wash away the bacteria, and thus giving no chance for them to expel some odor.

2. Use Anti-bacterial soap
Anti-bacterial soap helps to reduce the number of bacteria in the body, thus reducing the body odor. Wash thoroughly, especially the areas that prone to sweat a lot.

3. Dry yourself completely
After you had shower, towel off your body and make sure you dry your body completely. It’s difficult for bacteria to breed on dry skin.

4. Apply powder
Talcum powder can keep our body dry.

5. Use clean wardrobe
If you’re sweating a lot, make sure to change your clothes often. Fresh clothes will make your body odor down.

6. Use deodorants or antiperspirants
Deodorants do not prevent sweating but they can mask the smell of the bacteria on your skin. Meanwhile, antiperspirants reduce sweating and contain a deodorant.

7. Air out your shoes
Make sure you let your shoes air out after you use it for at least 24 hours before you wear it again. Try to have at least 2 shoes, so that you don’t have to wear the same shoes every day.

8. Change your socks frequently
Be sure to change your socks often if you tend to have foot odor. Try to use socks that made up from propylene, which is one of the best materials that have absorbent effects. (It’s a new information for me actually..will try to take a look at the sock material after this..kekeke)

9. Some foods make you smell bad
Here are the lists:
                                 i.            Processed and junk food
ii.            Foods that containing large amount of spices & garlics
iii.            Food eaten in a hurry
iv.            Foods rich in choline such as egg and liver
                               v.            Red meat

So, for those who think they have this problem, I wish you guys good luck on trying these tips. And for those who their friends have this problem, you may try to tell them these tips. Some of them might not realize that they have bad odor, so it’s our job as a friend to inform them. So, to my friends who know me, if I’m smelly, please tell me ‘kay..kekeke. :D

Oh! By the way, it has been 3 months since Girls’ Generation made their comeback with I GOT A BOY but I still enjoy hearing and singing it every day. Ayo GG! Hehe. Motip Lolol ni nak cerita pasal Girls’ Generation jugak kan. Hahahaha

Until we meet again, bye-bye!

Lots of love,
Lolol

The KingPin (new)

Hye ..Assalamualaikum…and Hello Readers. ..!  :D

A lot of Medicine stuffs to learn, right. Fuhh~  Breathless. Study, study, study and study but do you ever wonder who discovered ALL of these ‘stuffs’ ? I bet the answer is no. Well, me too. Hehe. :D
So, here is some useful information that I would like to share.. about our KINGS of medicine -  the people who had discovered ALL about what we learn today. Kings of Medicine ? Who ? Ok, have you ever heard of these name … Avicenna? Or Hippocrates ? I bet yes. But, do you know what did they contribute in medicine ? ?

Oh, yes, welcome to our new segment ; The King Pin ! It’s not compulsory but if you have some leisure times, feel free to spend it here. J

Before I start my real The King Pin session, I would like to show you something. Something that I think we should know first before we know them. I made it myself. But, don’t worry. It’s all based on my readings – published book, text books, and also our beloved fellow Wikipedia.
I present to you. Taraaa…

I’d love histories especially when they’re related to our Prophets. But I’m not a historians though, so I started my timeline with the most well-known ancient kingdoms, which are the Ancient Greece (Unani) and Egypt. I didn’t put the dates for before C.E because it is THOUSANDS and even MILLIONS you know. Whoaa~  I just skip that. I hope that’s okay. My handmade timeline is just a summary of our world’s history. For more details, please read somewhere else. :P

The reason why I started with the Ancient Greece and Egypt is their contributions in medicine are the oldest, since before Common Era. In this time, people believed that all illnesses are because of mystical power. However, Hippocrates (the Greek physician) disagreed and believed that the illnesses occurred naturally. Hippocrates and later Galen (the Persian physician) studied medicine at the temple of Amenhotep (Egypt). And Avicenna, from Umayyad Empire, continued the teachings from them with a lot of his additional scientific information. Finally, from the mystical beliefs, it becomes scientific based medicine.

So, readers, I mentioned some of them. Hippocrates, Galen, Avicenna…more and more…Who are they ? I will share about them later.  Check out this segment to know more about our HERO of MEDICINE in THE KING PIN !

Thank you for reading. J

The Amazing Sardine

hello and good day, readers! Welcome to Lolol’s Bhealthy.Bgood segment.
Recently we had been informed that JPA scholarship will be given on 12th January 2013. Such a bad news, right? And the worse part is most of us dah kering dah wallet. TT-TT Be strong, guys! We will survive!
So let me introduce to you one of the ways to save our money. Simple. Eat sardine. Hehe. Jimat u’olls. Boleh makan ramai-ramai pulak tu. So, as you can see the title of this entry, today I’m gonna talk about the Health Benefits of Sardine. Well, it’s cheap. It’s delicious. It’s available everywhere. And so I love it! ;p

Based on Wikipedia, sardine is a common name that referring to various small, oily fish within the herring family of Clupeidae. It was named after the Italian island of Sardinia, where sardine were once abundant there. Hehe. I never know about the existence of that island until I read about sardine. ;p

Sardine is a prime source of Vitamin B12. It contains high levels of tryptophan, selenium, Vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids, protein, calcium and phosphorus. Basically, there are 6 health benefits of sardine.

Number 1 à It’s good for your cardiovascular system.
§   Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA: Lower triglycerides and cholesterol levels.
§  Vitamin B12: Plays role on maintaining homocysteine balance in our body.

Number 2 à It’s good for your bone.
§  Vitamin D: Help in calcium absorption in gut.
§  Phosphorus: Important mineral for bone mineralization.

Number 3 à It has anti-cancer properties.
§  Selenium: Has powerful antioxidant activity.
§  Omega-3 fatty acid: Effective against the blood cell and lymph cell cancer like leukemia and non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Number 4à It’s good for your eyes.
§  Omega-3 fatty acid: Protect against macular degeneration. It also reduces the risk of dry eye syndrome.

Number 5 à It’s good for your skin and hair.
§  Omega-3 fatty acids: Regulate oil production in your skin and hence, keeps your skin hydrated and prevents it from drying. It also prevents the release of enzyme that destroys collagen during UV rays exposure. This will make your skin look youthful. Apart from that, omega-3 fatty acid provides nourishment to hair follicles and thus preventing hair loss! So for those who worry about their hair loss, why don’t you try to eat sardine more. It will also maintain good hair luster.

Number 6 à It’s full of protein.
§  It provides us amino acids which are used by our bodies to make new proteins. And I bet each one of us know the functions of protein and its importances.

In conclusion, sardine is amazing!! It’s small, simple and yet still beneficial to this world. I hope that you guys are more interested in sardine after read this entry. Perhaps, a sardine sandwich for breakfast after this?

Oh, by the way, for those who haven’t watch Twilight: Breaking Dawn (Part 2) yet, please watch it. I’m not a Twilight fan actually. But I think this one is the best among the other Twilight series. And it’s worth to watch the movie. In this final sequel, the actors and the actresses gave their best shot in expressing their feelings. Plus, its graphics are so fascinating. I love it the most. ;p

Okay, thanks for reading my entry. Live your life to the fullest, folks! (My boss asked me to put this slogan: In MESTA, we care.) Hehe. Till the next time!
Lots of love,
Lolol

The Power of Colours

Good day, readers!
This is Lolol’s Bhealthy.Bgood segment again. For those yang tengah cuti sekarang, I hope you’re enjoying your holidays. And for those yang sedang berjuang di fakulti, chaiyok2!!

“A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between he does what he wants to do.” –Bob Dylan

Okay, back to our original topic today - The Power Of Colours. Have anyone heard of chromotherapy? Well, even if you never heard of it, I bet you can guess what it is. The term chromo come from a Greek word, which mean colours. So, chromotherapy is also known as colour therapy. It’s one of a complementary medicine method.

It was started one thousand years ago, when Ibn Sina discussed about chromotherapy in his book, The Canon of Medicine. He wrote that "Color is an observable symptom of disease". His view was that red moved the blood, blue or white cooled it, and yellow reduced muscular pain and inflammation. Since then, many researches about chromotherapy were done. It’s a lot! LOL x) But here is what I got.

Okay, actually by using the colours of the light spectrum, chromotherapy balance and enhance our body's energy centres (chakras) which can stimulate our body's own healing process. See? Bukan dalam badan Naruto jer yang ada chakra-chakra ni. Kita pun ada u’olls. Hehe

There are 7 main chakra colours basically. They are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Below are possible health benefits of the colours that are used in chromotherapy:

Red
Improve blood circulation and nervous system.

Orange
Orange stimulates the lungs, the respiration and the digestion. Increases the activity of the thyroid. Reliefs muscle cramps and spasms.

Yellow
Strengthen the nervous system.

Green
Preserves and strengthen eyesight.

Blue
Nourishes our throat region and acts as pain reliever.

Indigo
Exerts a soothing effect on the eyes, ears and the nervous system.

Violet
Benefits the nerves and lymphatic system. Helps to heal infections and inflammations.

Actually there are lots more benefits of these colours. In fact, apart from these 7 colours, there are other colours that give many benefits as well. You can find it yourself at google if you’re curious about it. Hehe ;p
In addition, it is also good for your health to eat colourful fruits and vegetables. Different colours have different natural plant pigments. And different pigments give different benefits.
